In a significant anti-smuggling operation, the Bihar Police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) intercepted a large parcel disguised as a “New Year gift box” in Lakhisarai district. Upon opening the parcel, officers discovered a substantial quantity of illegal liquor hidden inside, highlighting a sophisticated attempt to evade detection through postal channels.

Authorities noted that the consignment was likely intended to circulate during New Year celebrations, despite Bihar’s existing liquor prohibition laws. The alertness of postal officials combined with investigative support from CID enabled the discovery. No arrests have been announced yet, but the case is being pursued vigorously to trace the supply chain and identify conspirators behind this illicit distribution attempt.

Police reiterated that such smuggling efforts constitute a serious breach of state law, and heightened vigilance would continue across postal routes and transport hubs. Officials said they are analysing records of departures and consignment origins to uncover broader networks.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by enforcement agencies in curbing illicit trade while showcasing proactive steps taken by security units to uphold prohibition laws and block illegal distribution before public holiday seasons.
