The Bihar Economic Offences Unit (EOU) today announced the formation of a Special Task Force (STF) to crack down on illegal sand mining and land mafia operations across the state. The specialised unit will be led by EOU DIG Manavjit Singh Dhillon, with senior officers and inspectors assigned to spearhead investigations. The STF’s mandate includes probing illicit property accumulation, conducting financial probes, tracking money trails, and facilitating asset seizures tied to mafia activities. A public helpline has also been launched to allow citizens to report illegal mining and criminality. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar reviewed the plan ahead of today’s launch. Officials emphasised that the move aims to bolster enforcement against entrenched mafia networks that have long challenged the state’s rule of law and environmental regulations.
