Security at the Patna Civil Court was placed on high alert on Monday after authorities received a threatening email warning that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) containing RDX had been planted inside the court complex, triggering panic and the immediate evacuation of the premises.
The email was sent to the official address of the District and Sessions Judge and also to the District Bar Association, claiming that multiple explosives were hidden within the court area. As a precaution, judges, lawyers, court staff, litigants and visitors were ordered to leave the campus while bomb disposal squads, police and canine units conducted thorough searches of all buildings and grounds.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma said no explosives or suspicious objects were found after searches, and the threat currently appears to be a hoax. Police have registered a case at the Pirbahore Police Station and the cyber crime unit is tracing the origin and sender of the email.
The disruption led to the postponement of judicial proceedings, including the scheduled bail hearing of Pappu Yadav, whose case was to be heard in the court on Monday. This is the latest in a series of bomb threat emails affecting court complexes in Bihar in recent months. Similar warnings earlier this year also prompted evacuations at courts in Patna and other districts, although no actual explosives were found in any of those incidents.
