Police in Bihar’s Purnia district have busted a major cybercrime operation involving cryptocurrency transactions worth nearly ₹2 crore. One accused has been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to trace other individuals linked to the racket. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the state’s ongoing crackdown on cyber-enabled financial crimes.

According to officials, the accused was involved in duping people through online fraud and routing the illegally obtained money into cryptocurrency wallets to evade detection. During the operation, police seized electronic devices, including mobile phones and digital storage equipment, which are now being examined for transaction records and links to other suspects.

Investigators said the cybercrime network appeared to be operating across multiple locations, targeting victims through deceptive online methods such as fake investment schemes and fraudulent communication. The use of cryptocurrency made tracking the money trail more complex, prompting involvement of cyber experts and financial intelligence units.

Police stated that further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses. Authorities have also begun analysing digital footprints to identify beneficiaries and collaborators associated with the illegal transactions.

Officials reiterated that cybercrime cases involving digital currencies are increasing and urged citizens to remain cautious while engaging in online financial activities. Awareness and prompt reporting, they said, are key to preventing such frauds.
