In a targeted crackdown against illicit alcohol, police in Bhagalpur district carried out simultaneous raids across multiple locations, leading to the seizure of 100 litres of locally-made liquor and 18 litres of foreign-brand spirits. Three individuals were taken into custody and one motorbike used in transporting the contraband was impounded.
Authorities stated that this operation forms part of an ongoing campaign to curb bootleg liquor distribution and reduce associated social harms. Local community groups had alerted officials about frequent late-night deliveries and shady storage sites, prompting the operation. Investigators are examining supply chains, identifying storage hubs and tracing links to organized distribution networks.
Officials noted that recovery of foreign-brand spirits suggests a broader smuggling angle rather than purely local production. The arrested suspects are being interrogated to determine if there are cross-district or interstate links. The police plan further raids and have declared an intensified watch on known hotspots.
Residents expressed relief at the action but urged sustained enforcement, arguing that occasional busts without follow-through leave loopholes open. The district administration has pledged to increase night patrols, use surprise checks and coordinate with transport and excise departments to dismantle the liquor network.
