Patna Police today exposed a land acquisition scam involving approximately ₹55 lakh, naming 11 accused in an FIR after a preliminary investigation revealed financial irregularities and alleged misappropriation of funds during a government land acquisition process in the city’s outskirts.
According to police sources, the scam relates to deceptive documentation and inflated compensation disbursed to purported landowners who were not the rightful claimants. The illegal gains estimated at around ₹55 lakh were allegedly distributed among a network of intermediaries, local officials and private agents who colluded to manipulate acquisition records and facilitate unauthorised payments.
Law-enforcement officials stated that the complaint was filed following a tip-off and corroborating evidence obtained through document verification. Based on this, officers registered a formal FIR under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and land-acquisition laws. The FIR lists 11 named accused accused of conspiracy, cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust, including some local brokers and middlemen involved in transferring funds and falsifying ownership papers.
“An initial audit raised red flags about irregular compensation payouts,” said an investigating officer, noting that the probe unearthed multiple layers of forged documents and false claim submissions. Police have initiated asset checks and are tracing financial trails to recover misappropriated funds.
