Patna Police today released its latest crime data, showing that the overall crime rate in the city has fallen by nearly 50 percent compared to the same period last year. The announcement was made by Samrat Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister and senior minister for law and order, who credited coordinated policing efforts, stronger community engagement and enhanced patrolling for the significant decline.
According to official figures, key categories such as theft, robbery, motor-vehicle theft and street crimes have witnessed notable decreases, while convictions in several pending cases have improved due to faster investigations and legal follow-ups. Choudhary stated that the data reflects sustained administrative focus on tackling crime hotspots, increased deployment of night patrol units, and robust action against organised criminal networks. He also highlighted the effective use of data-driven policing strategies, including crime mapping, rapid response teams and community policing forums, as factors contributing to improved safety.
Officials emphasised that the reduction in crime does not imply complacency; instead, it marks progress under an ongoing public-safety strategy that seeks to maintain law and order while addressing emerging challenges. The Police Commissioner’s office said enhanced surveillance, neighbourhood outreach and citizen-police liaison cells will continue to be key features of the city’s safety architecture.
Patna residents and business owners reacted positively to the announcement, noting that increased night-patrolling and visible police presence have fostered a stronger sense of security. However, some citizens also urged authorities to sustain the momentum, especially in areas prone to petty theft and vehicle break-ins.
