The 11th edition of the festival “Subah-e-Banaras” is set to commence today at Assi Ghat in Varanasi, timed with the city’s renowned sunrise by the Ganga river. Over 3,400 artists and more than 5,000 supporting participants will perform across genres including classical music, dance, Vedic chanting and poetry recitals. This year the celebration places special emphasis on shehnai and tabla players, in recognition of the event’s recent Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Organisers say the festival aims not only to entertain but to revitalise heritage traditions, strengthen cultural tourism and engage global participants. Preparations include open-air yoga at dawn, interactive workshops, performances by international artists and local youth masquerades. Officials expect the gathering to draw art-lovers, devotees and tourists alike, reinforcing Varanasi’s identity as a cultural capital. The event also includes food-markets, artisan stalls and thematic installations linking spirituality, music and place.
