A significant milestone in preserving India’s intellectual heritage was achieved today as the first phase of the archive of Jawaharlal Nehru’s works was made available online. The project, undertaken by the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, comprises 100 volumes of correspondence, speeches and documents compiled over five decades. The digital release allows researchers, students and the public access to the foundational texts of India’s early post-independence period. Librarians noted that indexing, digitisation and quality-control took years, and the rollout will continue in phases. Scholars lauded the move for enabling greater transparency, academic discourse and public-history engagement. The portal also features interactive tools, thematic filters and annotation options to assist users. Government officials described the launch as part of a larger digital-heritage strategy to preserve archives, support scholarship and promote civic awareness.
