Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur Bridge in Bihar Expected to Be Completed by May 2026

The ambitious Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur Bridge project in Bihar is now slated for completion by May 2026, according to senior officials of the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL). The announcement comes after an inspection by the state’s engineering team today, signalling renewed momentum in one of the region’s most significant infrastructure initiatives linking Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district to Tajpur across the Ganga.

The bridge — designed to significantly reduce travel time between the two towns and improve connectivity across northern Bihar — has long been awaited by commuters, traders and local communities. Once operational, it will provide a direct river crossing that bypasses longer detour routes and is expected to enhance economic activity, facilitate smoother transport of goods and strengthen access to healthcare and education facilities for residents in several neighbouring districts.

Officials said that while earlier phases faced delays due to monsoon disruptions and land acquisition hurdles, construction agencies have accelerated progress in recent months. Major

structural components such as piers and approach spans have been completed, and final decking and safety installations are underway.

BSRDCL engineers emphasised that the project is being executed with modern safety, durability and load-capacity standards, and that periodic quality audits are in place to maintain compliance with national bridge construction norms.

Local representatives and residents welcomed the updated timeline, stating that the infrastructure boost will improve not just commute but also the overall socio-economic landscape of the region. Transportation unions have also indicated plans to introduce new bus services across the bridge soon after its inauguration.

The Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur bridge’s completion is expected to be a key milestone in Bihar’s broader push to upgrade regional connectivity and integrate hinterland economies with major urban centres.
