In a significant stride towards modernizing healthcare infrastructure, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated two state-of-the-art towers at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) today. These towers, comprising a combined capacity of 1,117 beds, are integral to PMCH's ambitious redevelopment project aimed at transforming it into India's largest and the world's second-largest hospital with a total of 5,462 beds.
A standout feature of this redevelopment is the newly constructed rooftop helipad, designed to facilitate air ambulance services. This addition is poised to revolutionize emergency medical response by enabling rapid transportation of critical patients directly to the hospital's emergency wards.
The helipad is part of a broader initiative to enhance patient care and accessibility. The new towers are equipped with 65 automated ICU beds, 44 post-ICU beds, 100 private rooms, 10 deluxe rooms, and two exclusive suites. Additionally, the facility boasts 10 outpatient departments (OPDs) and emergency wards, outfitted with advanced medical equipment at an investment of ₹160 crore.
The redevelopment project, with an estimated cost of ₹5,540 crore, encompasses the construction of a 72.44 lakh square foot facility. The hospital's design incorporates seismic base isolation technology to ensure earthquake resistance, reflecting a commitment to patient safety and structural integrity. As PMCH approaches its centenary on February 25, 2025, these developments mark a significant milestone in Bihar's healthcare evolution.
