Patna, September 25, 2026: Bank customers across Bihar and the rest of India are facing an unusual banking schedule this weekend. Public Sector Banks (PSBs) and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain operational on Sunday, September 27, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30.
The decision has been taken to reduce disruption for customers because September 26 is the fourth Saturday and September 27 would normally be a Sunday holiday.
Why Are Banks Opening on Sunday?
The Finance Ministry has directed public sector banks and regional rural banks to function normally on September 27.
The objective is to provide customers with access to essential banking services before the proposed strike begins. The Reserve Bank of India has also approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on Sunday.
Why Are Bank Employees Planning a Strike?
Bank employee unions have announced a three-day strike from September 28 to September 30.
Among the demands raised by unions is the implementation of a five-day working week, along with other service-related demands. The proposed strike also coincides with the end of the half-yearly financial period, increasing concerns about possible disruption to some banking operations.
What About Digital Banking?
Customers can continue using digital banking services such as UPI, mobile banking and internet banking, although specific services may be affected depending on the nature of the strike and individual bank operations.
The Finance Ministry has also asked banks to maintain adequate ATM cash availability and take steps to minimise disruption.
