An Australian travel influencer gained widespread attention this week after posting a video featuring Patna, the capital of Bihar, with an unexpectedly positive assessment. The vlogger, popularly known as “Fozzie Bhai” on Instagram, noted that the city was “surprisingly clean” and its residents “very friendly,” challenging long-standing stereotypes about the region.

In his video, he used a mix of Hindi and English as he walked through Patna’s streets, greeting locals and pointing out how civic-efforts seemed visible. He said, “Patna, Bihar isn’t what desis made it out to be. It is actually a very friendly city.” He added that while infrastructure work was ongoing, the cleanliness of the streets was “very, very clean.” The clip has since gone viral, drawing reactions from users across India who expressed surprise, pride or both. Comments ranged from “Tier-2 cities in India are cleaner than Tier-1 cities” to observations that outsiders often appreciate Bihar more than

its own residents.

Local civic officials welcomed the attention, stating the video may help shift perceptions and encourage investment and tourism interest. Urban planners noted the timing is noteworthy, given Patna is currently undergoing infrastructure improvements under large state-led programmes. However, some critics advised caution, pointing out that infrastructure gaps and development imbalances remain in various parts of the city and state.

The episode underscores how digital platforms can alter narrative frameworks and bring renewed attention to smaller cities often overlooked in mainstream discussions. Whether this viral moment translates into tangible change for Patna remains to be seen.
