Jamui, Bihar: A major development has emerged in the Jamui harassment case involving two minor students. The main accused, identified as Nandan Yadav, was injured in a police encounter on Tuesday and subsequently arrested, according to police and multiple media reports.
The case came to light after a disturbing video showing a group of men allegedly surrounding, assaulting and molesting a Class 10 girl and harassing her male friend went viral on social media. The incident reportedly took place on September 19, when the two teenagers were returning after attending coaching classes.
Main accused shot in the leg
According to police reports, Nandan Yadav was being pursued during an operation to apprehend him when the encounter took place. He sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being taken into custody.
Reports also state that another accused, Hare Ram Yadav, was arrested during the police operation and suffered a leg injury. With these arrests, the total number of people taken into custody in the case has risen to five, while police have identified around seven people allegedly involved in the incident.
SIT formed to investigate the case
Following the circulation of the video, Jamui Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Deepti Monali. Police used the video footage and other evidence to identify those allegedly involved and began raids to locate the remaining suspects.

Police action over circulation of the video
Authorities have also taken action against people who circulated the video online because it allegedly revealed the identity of a minor victim. Police have reportedly registered an FIR against around 120 social-media profile holders in connection with sharing the footage.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, with police searching for the remaining accused and examining the available video and other evidence.
