Big Boost for Greater Patna: New Projects Announced for the Bihta to Masaurhi Region

City

Bihar’s capital, Patna, is set for a major transformation. In response to the city’s rapid expansion and growing population, the district administration has planned several significant changes. A proposal has been sent for the formation of the Greater Patna Authority, which will encompass 14 blocks.

To ease traffic congestion, the Bankipur Bus Stand will be relocated, and stopping points for auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws near Patna Junction will be restricted. Additionally, a proposal for the construction of a new Greenfield Airport in Punpun has been submitted to the central government.

Greater Patna Authority to Be Established Soon

With urban expansion, the Greater Patna Authority will be established to improve civic amenities. The authority will include 14 blocks across four subdivisions of Patna. District Magistrate, Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, stated that Greater Patna will comprise the following blocks:

✅From Patna Sadar subdivision — Patna Sadar, Sampatchak, and Phulwarisharif;

✅From Patna City subdivision — Fatuha, Daniyawan, and Khusrupur;

✅From Masaurhi subdivision — Masaurhi, Punpun, and Dhanarua;

✅From Danapur subdivision — Danapur, Maner, Bihta, Naubatpur, and Bikram.

The District Magistrate explained that following the establishment of the Patna Regional Development Authority (PRDA), plans were made for the development of Greater Patna. In 2016, the Patna Metropolitan Region Development Authority was formed, and the Patna Master Plan 2031 was notified by including 13 blocks. However, the plan could not be fully implemented. Therefore, the department has been sent a new proposal

for forming the Greater Patna Authority.

Bankipur Bus Stand to Be Shifted

To tackle the frequent traffic jams at Kargil Chowk near Gandhi Maidan, the administration has decided to relocate the Bankipur Bus Stand. In its place, a modern five-storey hotel is planned. A survey by the traffic police revealed that the constant movement of buses was the main cause of congestion in the area.

Meanwhile, to ease the traffic chaos around the Patna Junction roundabout, authorities have banned the parking of autos and e-rickshaws near the spot. According to the District Magistrate, autos gathering around the roundabout were a major reason for the jams. A new dedicated auto stand has now been set up nearby, ensuring better traffic flow and more convenience for passengers.

Another Airport Coming to Patna

Patna already has an operational airport, and now, a new airport is being developed in Bihta to cater to passenger flights. In addition to these two, the state government has submitted a proposal to the central government for the construction of a new Greenfield airport. The land for this new airport is being explored in the Punpun

The land for this new airport is being explored in the Punpun area. Once approval is received from the central government, the process of land acquisition will begin.

Bihar is moving forward with confidence, as these ambitious projects are not only changing the state's landscape but also creating new opportunities and a sense of pride for its people
