In a major robbery incident, employees of a Rajkot-based jewellery firm were looted of gold worth approximately ₹25 crore in Bihar’s Patna, raising serious concerns over the safety of high-value consignments.
The incident took place near Danapur railway station when two employees of the firm, identified as Mahesh Mamtora and Prince Ranpariya, arrived in the city carrying a large consignment of gold jewellery. They were reportedly intercepted by a group of around eight men who posed as customs officials.
Under the pretext of checking documents and invoices, the accused allegedly forced the employees into a vehicle and abducted them. The victims were then taken to a secluded location, where the gang threatened them and looted nearly 17 kilograms of gold jewellery before abandoning them and fleeing the scene.
Following the robbery, the victims informed their employer, after which a complaint was lodged with the police. Authorities have since launched an investigation and formed a special team to probe the case. Initial findings suggest that the robbery may have been
The incident has sent shockwaves through the trading community, particularly among jewellers dealing with interstate transport of valuable goods. Police are currently examining CCTV footage and tracking leads to identify and apprehend the accused.
