In preparation for the vast number of devotees expected during Kartik Purnima bathing at the river-ghats in Patna, the local administration has imposed stringent traffic controls across major thoroughfares. From 10 pm on Tuesday night until 11 am on Wednesday, vehicular movement will be barred between Kargil Chowk and Gaighat, and all entry onto the JP Ganga Setu (commonly JP Setu) will be prohibited for the specified duration.
The ban covers Ashok Rajpath and all link-roads from Kargil Chowk to the under-Gaighat bridge area, ensuring uninterrupted pedestrian movement and robust crowd-management at the ghats. Vehicles approaching Patna via JP Setu will not be allowed to descend onto the Ganga Path; instead, motorists are being directed to use the alternative route of Mahatma Gandhi Setu to reach the city.
Parking has been organised and segregated to minimise congestion. Designated areas include the campuses of Patna College and Science College Patna (access via Khazanchi Road). City buses bound for Sarah, Khagaul etc will terminate at Gate No.10 of Gandhi Maidan and will not enter Kargil Chowk. From the Digha-side, devotees will be parked either via Patlipath northern tip or Ramjichak approach; heavy vehicles, buses and JCBs will be banned from JP Setu during the ban period.
Authorities emphasise that the controls are necessary to maintain public safety, smooth entrants to the ghats and prevent vehicular-pedestrian collisions amid thousands of devotees. Commuters and local residents have been urged to plan ahead and adhere to the advisory to avoid
