The Patna High Court is set to receive a significant infrastructure and facilities upgrade, officials announced today, as part of a broader programme to modernise judicial infrastructure in Bihar. The plan, approved by the state and court administration, aims to enhance working conditions for judges, lawyers and litigants while improving overall judicial efficiency and access to justice.
Under the modernisation initiative, the court complex will see the introduction of state-of-the-art courtroom technology, including advanced audio-visual systems for evidence presentation, upgraded digital hearing platforms, and improved network connectivity to support hybrid (in-court and virtual) proceedings. Renovation plans also include the development of dedicated video conferencing halls, expanded law library resources with digital access, and ergonomic workspaces designed to support longer judicial sittings.
Security upgrades are also part of the blueprint, with installation of integrated surveillance systems and controlled entry points to ensure a safe environment for all court users. Separate waiting lounges, accessible facilities for persons with disabilities, and enhanced sanitation and water services are included to improve comfort and convenience within the
court precincts.
Judicial officers welcomed the announcement, noting that enhanced facilities will help reduce delays and support efficient case management. Members of the Bar expressed optimism that improved infrastructure will benefit lawyers and litigants alike, especially given the growing caseload and the increasing use of technology in legal proceedings.
State officials said that detailed architectural and engineering plans are being finalised, after which tendering and phased construction work will commence. The project is expected to be completed in stages to ensure minimal disruption to ongoing court hearings.
Legal analysts noted that upgrading the high court’s infrastructure aligns with national efforts to modernise judicial institutions, promote digital justice delivery and strengthen the rule of law at the state level.
