Patna Metro Services Halted After 76 Days Due to Technical Snag

City

Services of the Patna Metro were suspended today after a technical snag disrupted operations for the first time in 76 days since regular passenger services began. Officials reported that a fault was detected in the signalling system on one of the main operational stretches of the elevated corridor, prompting an immediate precautionary halt to ensure passenger safety.

Passengers waiting at major stations including PP1 (Patna Junction), PP2 (Rajendra Path), PP3 (Patliputra Stadium) and PP4 (Khemnichak) experienced abrupt cancellations of scheduled services. Metro authorities informed commuters that the fault was identified during routine system monitoring early this morning, triggering automatic alerts that led to the suspension of services before any train departed. No injuries or safety incidents were reported.

The Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) issued a statement assuring swift action to diagnose and rectify the issue. Engineers and signalling specialists are conducting detailed inspections, system diagnostics and hardware tests to isolate the cause and implement corrective measures. The corporation said it would deploy alternative commuter support services including shuttle buses and temporary feeder transport where feasible until normal operations resume.

Commuters expressed frustration over the disruption, noting that many relied on the metro for timely travel to workplaces, educational institutions and commercial centres. Daily users said they hoped the breakdown would be resolved quickly as dependence on the rapid transit system has grown steadily since its launch.

Transport department officials emphasised that passenger safety is the top priority

and that services will remain suspended until full system integrity is verified. Updates on restoration timelines are expected later today after technical assessments are completed.

This interruption marks the first major service disruption since the metro’s inauguration, and the PMRC has pledged to keep the public informed through official channels.
