The Patna district administration has extended school closures for pre-primary students until January 16, 2026, due to ongoing severe cold wave conditions and dense fog affecting safe travel and outdoor safety. This decision affects all government and private schools offering pre-primary education, including nursery and kindergarten levels, and comes after a review of weather forecasts indicating that extreme cold and reduced visibility will persist over the coming days.
Under the revised directive, senior classes (Class 9 and above) will operate on adjusted timings to minimise student exposure during the coldest parts of the day. Schools have been instructed to delay morning sessions and conduct classes between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM, with adequate safeguards for students travelling during improved visibility windows. The move aims to protect students’ health while maintaining academic continuity in core higher classes.
Education officials emphasised that attendance norms will be revised to ensure that no student is academically disadvantaged due to weather disruptions. Schools have also been encouraged to organise digital or blended learning activities for students who may face travel difficulties.
The extended closure for younger children follows earlier decisions to prioritise pupil safety amid frost, fog and low temperatures, particularly for those more vulnerable to cold-related health issues. Parents welcomed the clarity on revised schedules but expressed concerns about prolonged breaks affecting learning outcomes. School administrators said they would monitor weather conditions daily and communicate further updates
Health experts reiterated that persistent cold can exacerbate respiratory issues, especially in young children, and urged families to take recommended precautions including warm clothing, restricted early-morning travel and prompt medical attention if symptoms arise.
