Two major roads in the Bihar capital, Atal Path and JP Ganga Path, have emerged as accident-prone zones, with traffic officials and residents raising concerns about safety due to frequent collisions and road hazards. Local police and traffic authorities say these roads, despite being key thoroughfares for daily commuters, have seen a rising number of crashes because of high vehicle speeds and dangerous road-crossing patterns.
According to reports, Atal Path, which runs between R-Block and Digha, has become a hotspot for crashes, with as many as 25-30 accidents reported annually, reportedly resulting in 8-10 deaths and 40-50 injuries. Investigations suggest that pedestrian behaviour, including ignoring foot overbridges and crossing at unsafe points, is contributing to collisions with high-speed vehicles. Many overbridges constructed to improve safety remain underused or are in poor condition, and lifts meant for senior citizens are reportedly non-functional.
Traffic police officials also cited overspeeding, wrong-side driving, and insufficient enforcement as major factors leading to crashes on these stretches. Residents described vehicles often exceeding 120 km/h, with limited
