On the fifth anniversary of a major farmers’ protest, the coalition of unions led by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) today revived their demand for a statutory guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) on all crops  the so-called “MSP law.” The group also called for comprehensive loan waiver for marginal farmers and opposed proposed electricity-sector reforms. They announced plans for nationwide demonstrations and urged state units to submit memorandums to the President. The SKM highlighted that while large corporate debt has been waived in recent years, similar relief has not reached agrarian borrowers. The renewed agitation underscores continuing rural distress and farmer anxiety over economic stability. Analysts expect the mobilisation to test government sensitivity to agrarian demands ahead of upcoming state elections.
