As the countdown ends for the results of the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar, a dramatic blend of political self-congratulation and tension is unfolding. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is making grand preparations for a victory celebration, while the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has levelled serious allegations of misconduct and voter-roll manipulation, putting the Election Commission of India (EC) on high alert.

Exit-polls released in recent days predict the NDA securing a clear majority in the 243-seat assembly, estimates ranging from 120 to 160 seats for the alliance. Many surveys suggest the RJD-led bloc lagging far behind. These projections have emboldened the NDA to prepare for the outcome, distributing sweets (‘ladoos’) in anticipation of victory celebrations.

Meanwhile, the RJD has accused the electoral process of bias, raising concerns about the EC’s impartiality. The EC has responded by announcing tight two-tier security arrangements at counting centres across the state. The EC and state authorities are mobilising personnel, vehicles and oversight teams ahead of the counting day to ensure transparency and order.
