Independent Member of Parliament Pappu Yadav was arrested late Friday night at his residence in Patna by Bihar Police in connection with a 31-year-old property dispute case, officials said. The action followed a warrant issued by a trial court after Yadav repeatedly failed to appear in hearings.
The case relates to a dispute registered at the Gardanibagh police station in 1995. According to the complainant, Vinod Bihari Lal, Yadav allegedly rented his house under false pretences and later used it as a political office, concealing its intended use at the time of the agreement.
Police reached Yadav’s Patna residence on Friday to execute the court-issued warrant. Before his arrest, Yadav took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alleging that the police action was politically motivated and linked to his vocal criticism on issues including the death of a NEET aspirant. He asserted that he would not bow down to threats and would continue to highlight wrongdoing.
Following his arrest, Yadav’s health reportedly deteriorated and he was initially taken to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences for checks, and later transferred to Patna Medical College and Hospital for further treatment and monitoring. Police officials, however, said the arrest was carried out strictly under the court’s order.
