Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been formally expelled from the Indian National Congress, just days after she announced that she was leaving the party, senior Congress leaders confirmed on Friday. The decision was announced by Bhupesh Baghel, the party’s in-charge for Punjab affairs, during a media interaction in Amritsar. Baghel said that Sidhu, who had been suspended earlier, is now no longer a member of the Congress.
Sidhu, who is a doctor by profession and a former legislator from Amritsar, had publicly declared her intention to quit the party earlier this month amid growing dissatisfaction with its leadership and direction in the state. She had criticised the state unit’s functioning and expressed her frustration with senior leaders.
