A no-confidence motion moved by opposition members against Om Birla was defeated in the Lok Sabha after the government secured a majority through a voice vote.
The motion was brought forward by opposition parties who accused the Speaker of allegedly favouring the ruling side during parliamentary proceedings and not allowing adequate discussion on key issues raised by opposition members. The opposition argued that the Speaker’s conduct had undermined parliamentary neutrality.
Responding to the motion, members from the ruling alliance defended Birla’s role and stated that he had been conducting the House in accordance with parliamentary rules and procedures. They described the allegations as politically motivated.
After discussions in the House, the motion was put to a voice vote, where the majority of members opposed the proposal, leading to its defeat. The result ensures that Om Birla will continue to serve as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
