The RJD has served legal notices to 32 singers hailing from Bihar and other states who, according to the party, released songs during the election period that used the names of the party, its leader Tejashwi Yadav or veteran leader Lalu Prasad Yadav without authorisation. The party claims these songs were intended to defame the organisation and undermine its image ahead of the election.
The notices require the singers to provide a satisfactory explanation within a specified deadline; failure to comply will prompt legal action including defamation suits and FIRs. RJD’s state spokesperson, Shakti Singh Yadav, asserted that songs using the party’s symbols, flags, slogans or names without consent violate intellectual-property and public-representation norms and must be treated as illegitimate.
The action follows RJD’s poor performance in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, leading the party to adopt an image-control strategy. Officials said the music tracks in question were released or circulated on social media platforms and reels, purportedly aligned with rival interests, and damaged the party’s reputation.
