The final phase of the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections began early Tuesday across 20 districts covering 122 constituencies. Voters queued up at several polling stations before dawn as security personnel took charge of booths and checked voter IDs. Over 3.7 crore voters are eligible to decide the fate of 1,302 candidates in this concluding phase.
The Election Commission has deployed heavy security, particularly in border and sensitive districts such as Kishanganj, Araria and Purnea. Central forces and state police personnel are stationed at strategic locations, while drones are being used for aerial surveillance. Minor technical issues were reported at a few polling stations due to faulty Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), but officials confirmed swift replacements and assured that voting would continue without disruption.
This phase is being seen as crucial for both the ruling alliance and the opposition, which have made strong appeals for high turnout. The Election Commission has also arranged additional facilities for elderly and differently-abled voters. Polling will continue until 5 p.m. in most constituencies, with extended hours in select rural zones.
Counting of votes for all phases will take place on November 14, bringing an end to one of the most keenly watched assembly elections in the state’s recent history. Officials urged citizens to participate peacefully and responsibly to uphold Bihar’s democratic tradition.
