Indian Railways has announced a revision in passenger fares effective from 26 December 2025, affecting millions of travellers across important long-distance routes including Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Under the new pricing structure, fares for General and Sleeper Class coaches will increase modestly, marking the first major adjustment in several months. According to the revised tariff guidelines released today, the hike will apply proportionally based on distance and class type, with the largest changes seen on longer inter-city sectors. Officials explained that the fare revision aims to balance operational costs amid rising fuel, maintenance and staff expenditure, even as the railways continues efforts to maintain affordable travel for the majority of passengers.
