Patna, October 6, 2026: Residents in parts of Patna may hear emergency sirens during the afternoon today. However, there is no reason to panic. The sound is part of a planned technical test of the city’s emergency warning system.

The Directorate of Civil Defence is testing the emergency siren system installed at its control room in New Punaichak. The test is scheduled between 1 pm and 2 pm on October 6.

Why are the sirens being tested?

The exercise is designed to check whether the newly installed warning system is functioning properly.

During the test, different designated signals, including warning and “all-clear” signals, will be activated. The authorities are essentially checking whether the system can reliably deliver alerts when it is actually needed.

The emergency warning network is intended to become an important part of Patna’s disaster-preparedness infrastructure. In a genuine emergency, such systems can provide an early warning to people in affected areas.

Is there any emergency in Patna?

No.

The Bihar Disaster Management Department has clarified that Tuesday’s siren test is not connected to any actual emergency.

The sirens do not indicate an air raid, fire, flood, earthquake or any other immediate threat.

Residents have therefore been advised not to interpret the test signals as a warning of an ongoing disaster.

What should Patna residents do if they hear the siren?

The simplest answer is: stay calm and do not spread unverified information.

People do not need to switch off electricity, evacuate their homes or take any special emergency action merely because they hear the siren today.

The authorities have specifically asked

residents to avoid rumours and confusion while the testing is underway.

Why does this test matter?

A warning system is useful only if it works when a real crisis occurs.

Testing the sirens allows authorities to identify technical problems, assess the effectiveness of different signals and improve the city’s ability to communicate during an emergency.

Patna has previously conducted civil-defence exercises involving sirens and other emergency-preparedness measures. However, today’s exercise is primarily focused on testing the emergency siren system itself, rather than conducting a full-scale disaster drill.

What Patna should remember today

If you hear an emergency siren between 1 pm and 2 pm, don’t panic.

It is a scheduled technical test, not an emergency alert.

Residents should rely on information from official authorities rather than WhatsApp forwards, social-media posts or unverified claims.

The test is ultimately aimed at making Patna’s emergency communication system more reliable before it is ever needed in a real crisis.
