The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a statewide cold-wave alert as a western disturbance sweeps across Bihar, bringing a sharp drop in night-time temperatures. The drop is expected to be most severe in districts such as East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, and Siwan. Authorities have cautioned residents — especially the elderly, children and those with health vulnerabilities — to stay warm and take precautions. Schools and local administrations in vulnerable regions have been asked to prepare for likely cold-weather challenges. The alert arrives just as the winter season begins, raising concerns about increased demand for heating, potential health issues, and the need for grassroots-level support for poor and rural families in Bihar.
