Bihar Weather Alert: Rain, Thunderstorms and Fog Expected; Caution Issued

Weather

The Bihar Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for several regions of the state, forecasting a dynamic shift in conditions over the next 24–72 hours. Residents are advised to prepare for rain showers and isolated thunderstorms, along with dense fog in early mornings and nights in many districts, including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Ara.

According to the advisory, intermittent rainfall and thunderstorm activity is expected to accompany a western disturbance influencing the region, making conditions unsettled. This change could lead to temporary reduction in temperatures, sudden gusty winds and localized waterlogging in low-lying areas soon after heavy showers. Meteorologists say that while the rainfall may provide relief from the lingering cold wave conditions, the combination of rain and fog could significantly reduce visibility on roads, rail tracks and airports during early morning and late night travel.

A dense fog advisory remains in place for early hours, especially in northern and central Bihar, making travel challenging for commuters. Transport authorities have been urged to exercise caution and consider speed

restrictions to minimise accident risks. School authorities and parents have also been advised to monitor local conditions before sending students for early-morning travel, particularly in areas prone to thick fog.

Fishermen and riverine communities are cautioned about rough weather on inland waterways during thunderstorm spells, and advised to avoid venturing into open water during active storm periods. Farmers are being notified to protect standing crops and temporary structures from storm-induced wind damage.

The weather department said that this period of instability is expected to persist intermittently, with some districts receiving heavier rains than others. City officials are coordinating with disaster management teams to address drainage clearance and temporary flood management as needed.

Despite the rain, experts expect temperatures to stay relatively cool, with morning lows significantly higher than the earlier severe cold conditions but still requiring warm clothing during foggy hours. Health officials have also reminded citizens to guard against cold and respiratory ailments, particularly among children and the elderly.

Authorities urged people to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions while commuting or engaging in outdoor activities.
