Bihar is experiencing a marked increase in cold wave conditions, with day-to-day minimum temperatures dropping significantly in districts such as Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports strong north-westerly winds (pachhua) and dense fog in many places, leading to low visibility on roads and chillier nights. Residents reported sharp drops in early-morning temperatures, heightened by the dry, cold winds sweeping the region. Meteorologists say the cold wave is likely to persist, potentially affecting morning commutes and raising health concerns for vulnerable populations, especially older adults and children. Officials have advised warm clothing, caution on foggy roads and community checks to support those at risk.
