The Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned law-enforcement agencies in California about a potential drone threat allegedly linked to Iran amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
According to an internal alert circulated to police departments, intelligence indicated that Iran had considered launching a surprise drone attack from a vessel positioned off the U.S. West Coast, potentially targeting locations in California if the United States carried out military strikes against Iran. Authorities noted that the information suggests an intention or aspiration for such an attack but does not provide specific details about timing, targets or perpetrators.
The warning comes as hostilities in the Middle East have intensified, with Iran reportedly carrying out retaliatory strikes in the region following attacks on its territory. U.S. counter-terrorism agencies have placed security agencies on heightened vigilance, advising them to monitor suspicious maritime and aerial activities.
Officials said the alert is precautionary and intended to help local authorities prepare for any potential threats.
