India will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) National Coordinators’ Meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Islamabad, Pakistan, from September 28 to 30. According to reports, India will be represented by National Coordinator Alok Dimri at the meeting.
The meeting is expected to approve the calendar of SCO events to be held under Pakistan’s chairmanship. These events will be part of preparations for next year’s Council of Heads of State (CHS) summit, to which the leaders of member countries will be invited.
Since becoming a full member of the SCO in 2017, India has actively participated in various meetings and activities of the organisation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar have also represented India at SCO meetings.
However, the key question is whether Prime Minister Modi will travel to Islamabad next year for the SCO summit. According to Indian officials, Pakistan’s concrete action against cross-border terrorism and banned terrorist organisations will be considered an important factor in this regard.
