A meeting of the Eastern Central Railways’ Employees’ Union (ECRKU) Patna branch was held today to discuss a range of pressing concerns affecting railway staff and frontline workers. The agenda included issues such as backlog of promotions, delayed salary adjustments, safety concerns, inadequate staffing levels, and other service-related grievances that have been raised repeatedly by employees across departments.

Union leaders emphasised that unresolved promotion cases and stagnation in career progression have been a major cause of discontent, particularly among junior and mid-level staff. Delegates at the meeting urged the administration to expedite pending promotional reviews and ensure timely implementation of agreed pay scales and allowances. They also highlighted the need for periodic engagement with management to address systemic gaps and improve employee morale.

Safety emerged as another central theme, with members citing increased workload, rushed schedules, and inadequate protective gear as factors contributing to fatigue and risk on the job. Representatives called for enhanced safety protocols, regular training, and better access to medical and counselling services for employees.

The meeting concluded with the Patna branch passing a resolution to formally present the collective concerns to senior ECR management and the Railway Board. Union officials stated they would seek a structured timeline for implementation of the agreed reforms and follow up regularly through official channels.

Several employees who attended the session expressed satisfaction over the open forum for voicing issues, while also urging swift action to convert discussions into effective administrative

reforms. The union said it would maintain dialogue with all relevant authorities to push for equitable outcomes and workplace improvements.

Officials from the railway administration were not present at the meeting but are expected to respond to the union’s memorandum in the coming days.
