A powerful explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Bargam village, Hussain Ganj block, Siwan district of Bihar today killed one person and injured three others, prompting a swift response from local police and emergency services. The blast occurred inside the house of Murtazza Ansari, where firecrackers were reportedly being manufactured without safety clearances.

Residents in the area were startled by a loud bang shortly after midday, and smoke was seen rising from the house. Neighbours and passersby rushed to the scene to find several people severely injured and debris strewn across nearby homes and the narrow village lane. Emergency responders, including police and medical teams, arrived quickly, shifting the injured to a local hospital for treatment. Doctors said that while the three injured are in stable condition, they have sustained burn injuries and fractures.

Police said the site was an illegal firecracker unit, operating without licences, safety protocols or oversight. Authorities noted that the combination of explosive materials, poor storage practices and a lack of fire-prevention measures likely contributed to the severity of the incident.

District officials cordoned off the area and began collecting evidence, including remnants of firecracker components and structural damage assessments. Initial inquiries suggest that a spark or friction during manufacturing may have sparked the blast, but forensic analysis will be needed to confirm the cause.

Local leaders condemned the illegal manufacturing activity as extremely dangerous, noting that such units pose risks not only to workers but

also to nearby residents in congested rural settlements. Police said that arrests could follow if culpability in operating the illicit unit is established.

Villagers expressed shock and grief, especially over the loss of life. Many said they had previously raised concerns about safety in the area, but without formal channels to report illegal manufacturing activity.

The administration has urged residents to report suspected illegal operations and warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in unregulated industrial activities that endanger public safety.
