The much-anticipated 17-day Bihar Saras Mela has officially begun today at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, bringing together rural artisans, self-help groups and women-led enterprises from across Bihar and other parts of the country. The Mela, which will continue until December 28, was inaugurated this morning with cultural enthusiasm and strong public participation.
Organised by the Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (Jeevika) and the state’s rural development department, this year’s Saras Mela is themed “Bihar adorned by skilled hands,” highlighting the craftsmanship, cultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit of small producers. More than 500 stalls have been set up, primarily featuring products by women from self-help groups (SHGs) in over 25 states. These stalls showcase a diverse range of handicrafts, handlooms, regional delicacies, natural products, decorative items, and locally prepared nutritious food, offering direct market access to artisans and producers.
