In a major breakthrough, police have cracked the high-profile gold robbery case worth around ₹20–25 crore in Patna, where criminals posed as customs officials to execute a carefully planned heist.
Investigators revealed that the accused intercepted employees of a Gujarat-based jewellery firm near Danapur after they arrived with a large gold consignment. Pretending to be officials conducting an inspection, the gang forcibly took control of the situation and abducted the victims before looting the entire consignment.
Police said the operation was meticulously planned, with the gang using multiple vehicles, fake identities and prior intelligence about the movement of the gold. Preliminary findings indicate that the crime had interstate links, with the mastermind allegedly coordinating the plan from outside Bihar.
Sources also suggest that the conspiracy may have been driven by revenge and insider information, pointing to a deeper network behind the robbery. The use of fake number plates and abandoned vehicles was aimed at misleading investigators and delaying tracking efforts.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the security of high-value transport and the rising trend of impersonation-based crimes, especially in major transit hubs like Patna.
