In a major development at AIIMS Patna, the institution’s chief cashier was arrested today on charges of criminal breach of trust and alleged financial irregularities involving institutional funds. The arrest followed a complaint by senior AIIMS management after an internal audit reportedly uncovered discrepancies in accounting and cash handling that could not be reconciled through standard procedures.
Law enforcement officials said that preliminary investigations revealed that the cashier whose identity has been recorded by police had access to multiple cash-handling functions and was responsible for maintenance of key financial accounts, including petty cash disbursements and daily revenue logs. The audit flagged repeated mismatches between recorded entries and actual cash balances, prompting the administration to escalate the matter to the local police’s economic offences unit.
After obtaining formal approval for investigation, officers detained the suspect and brought him in for questioning. Police confirmed that electronic records, transaction logs and related documentation were seized during the probe. A senior investigating officer stated that prima facie evidence suggests deliberate manipulation of financial records and unauthorised
cash withdrawals contrary to institutional policy.
AIIMS Patna management issued a statement affirming full cooperation with the investigation, emphasising that financial integrity and transparency remain top priorities for the institution. They noted that corrective action, including stricter financial checks, reconciliation protocols and oversight measures, will be implemented to prevent recurrence of similar incidents.
Health services at the hospital were not disrupted, officials assured, and patients were advised that all routine operations and cashless billing at the facility remain unaffected. Administrative staff were instructed to assist investigators and maintain continuity of institutional functions.
Legal experts said that criminal breach of trust cases involving public institutions are taken seriously and can lead to stringent penalties if proven. The arrested cashier is expected to be produced before a magistrate’s court shortly for formal charges and remand proceedings.
The investigation remains ongoing, with police seeking additional documentation, witness statements and financial audit trails to build a comprehensive case. Authorities urged whistleblowers and staff to come forward with any relevant information to support the inquiry.
