Major Navya Shekhawat has become the first woman Indian Army officer to serve as an Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President.
She is the second woman officer to hold this position. Before her, in 2025, Lieutenant Commander Yashasvi Solanki of the Indian Navy became the first woman to take on this responsibility.
What does an ADC do?
- An ADC is one of the President’s closest military aides.
- They establish communication between the President and the Armed Forces.
- They are responsible for managing the President’s protocol during events.
- Serving as an ADC is considered one of the highest honours for a young military officer.
- Only officers with an outstanding service record are given this opportunity.
- Selection is based on leadership qualities, service record, and operational performance.
