Patna Police, under SSP Kartikeya Sharma, have arrested Anant Singh, a candidate from Janata Dal (United), along with his two aides Manikant Thakur and Ranjit Ram, in connection with the murder of 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav. The incident occurred on October 30 during a violent clash between supporters of rival political groups in the Mokama Assembly constituency, violating the Model Code of Conduct ahead of elections.
Police said evidence including eyewitness accounts and forensic reports confirms the violence was politically motivated. The investigation team acted swiftly after identifying the prime suspects.
Piyush Priyadarshi, the Jan Suraaj Party candidate contesting from Mokama, welcomed the arrest, saying it was a “good step,” though delayed. He alleged that even after the FIR was filed, Anant Singh continued to campaign with a large convoy of vehicles.
Meanwhile, Patna District Administration has intensified security measures: setting up checkpoints, seizing illegal arms, collecting licensed weapons, and deploying central forces to maintain law and order before the polls.
This case underscores the ongoing challenge of election-related violence in Bihar and highlights police efforts to ensure fair and peaceful voting in sensitive constituencies like Mokama.
