The post-mortem report of the 18-year-old NEET aspirant who died earlier this month in a girls’ hostel in Patna has confirmed that she was sexually assaulted before her death, and suffered horrific injuries indicating a violent struggle, police said today. Forensic findings show that the victim’s body bore multiple bruises and marks consistent with intense resistance, and biological evidence confirmed the presence of male semen on her clothes, prompting authorities to treat the case as rape and murder rather than a natural or accidental death.
The post-mortem report further noted that the cause of death was likely strangulation or suffocation, and injuries to her neck and private areas suggested forcible assault. Officers said that the extensive bruising and defensive wounds indicated the victim likely resisted her attackers. DNA samples from the biological evidence are being processed to match suspected individuals and help identify the accused.
The case has triggered significant public outrage and government action. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed, and the CBI has taken over key aspects of the probe to ensure an impartial and thorough investigation. Two police officers were suspended for delayed action and failure to act promptly in the early stages of the case.
Following the forensic revelations, authorities have intensified efforts to collect evidence from the hostel scene, including biological samples and CCTV footage, to reconstruct the timeline of events leading up to the victim’s death.
