In a significant administrative development, Inspector General (IG) Vinay Kumar, currently heading the Special Task Force (STF) of the Bihar Police, has been granted central deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials confirmed today. The move follows approval from the Union Home Ministry and reflects the central government’s confidence in his investigative experience and leadership abilities in handling complex security cases.
Vinay Kumar’s central posting will see him join the NIA’s cadre of senior officers engaged in counter-terrorism operations, multi-agency probes and coordination with state and central law-enforcement units on national security matters. Officials said that his expertise in intelligence gathering, organised crime suppression and inter-state coordination were key factors in the deputation decision.
State police sources noted that Vinay Kumar’s transfer will be effective immediately, and until a permanent replacement is appointed, senior officers from the Bihar Police have been tasked with maintaining continuity at the STF headquarters in Patna. A search committee has been constituted to recommend the next head of the STF unit, with considerations for experience, performance record and operational leadership.
