Patna: Bihar is set for a change in weather conditions over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and rainfall across parts of the state from October 27 onward.
For now, however, the weather remains relatively stable. The latest IMD forecast has no warning for Bihar on October 24, 25 and 26. The change is expected to become noticeable from October 27, when thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are forecast.
Rain Likely Across Bihar From October 28
According to the latest forecast, several parts of Bihar could experience light to moderate rain between October 28 and November 1.
The intensity may increase around October 29, when isolated areas could receive heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected during this period, along with strong wind gusts that could reach around 40–50 kmph.
The weather shift is linked to a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal. Meteorological authorities are closely monitoring the system as it moves west-northwestward toward the eastern coast.
What About Patna?
Patna is expected to remain largely dry over the next couple of days. The IMD's city forecast shows mainly clear conditions on October 24 and 25, followed by partly cloudy skies and a possibility of thunderstorms from October 27.
This means residents shouldn't expect immediate heavy rain today. The bigger weather change is expected later in the week.
Farmers Need to Stay Alert
The approaching weather system could be particularly important for farmers.
Strong winds and heavy rain may affect standing crops, while harvested crops left in the open could also be
During thunderstorms, people should also avoid open fields, isolated trees and weak structures. Lightning can pose a serious risk even when rainfall is limited.
Bihar's Weather Outlook
The next few days could therefore bring a noticeable shift from relatively dry conditions to a more unsettled weather pattern.
For now, there is no need for panic or unnecessary alarm. But from October 27 onward, residents should keep an eye on updated district-level forecasts, particularly if travelling or working outdoors.
The key dates to remember are:
October 24–26: Mostly stable weather
October 27: Thunderstorms and lightning possible
October 28: Rain and thunderstorms likely in parts of Bihar
October 29–30: Rain activity may intensify, with isolated heavy rain possible
As the Bay of Bengal system develops, the exact location and intensity of rainfall can change. The latest IMD updates should therefore be followed before making travel or agricultural decisions.
