Indian security agencies have dismantled a Pakistan-linked terror network that was reportedly planning destabilising activities across several states, officials said on Sunday after coordinated raids in Delhi, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. The operation followed earlier suspicious posters appearing in parts of Delhi that intelligence agencies believed were linked to the group’s activities.
According to investigators, initial surveillance picked up inflammatory posters that referenced extremist slogans and raised alarms about possible recruitment and mobilisation efforts. Security agencies intensified monitoring and traced communications and financial links that appeared to connect individuals in India with handlers believed to be operating from across the border in Pakistan.
Over the past week, state police and central counter-terror units carried out multiple raids at addresses in Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi. Several suspects were arrested, and electronic devices, documents and digital evidence were seized. Preliminary investigations indicate that the network had been attempting to exploit social media and encrypted messaging platforms to spread propaganda and recruit young people for violent activities.
Officials said the swift action prevented what they described as a “well-resourced and coordinated” plot, and added that further investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects and disrupt any remaining cells.
