The Uttarakhand government is preparing to expand the scope of reservation for former Agniveers who have completed their military service. The state government is considering providing 10% reservation to former Agniveers in various Group-C posts, including the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), wildlife guards, mining guards, and other positions. A proposal has also been made to provide necessary relaxations in recruitment rules.
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has written to Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, requesting that reservation for former Agniveers be ensured in the IRB and SDRF. It has also been proposed that former Agniveers be given relaxation in the written examination, physical efficiency test, and physical standards test.
In Uttarakhand, 10% reservation is already applicable to former Agniveers for posts such as police constables, sub-inspectors, platoon commanders, firefighters, jail warders, forest guards, and several other positions.
The Centre has expected 20% reservation for Agniveers in Group-C posts, while Uttarakhand currently has a 10% reservation provision.
The first batch of Agniveers is expected to complete their service and start returning from November 2026.
