ndia’s energy security is under pressure as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact fuel logistics, with LPG emerging as the most vulnerable segment.
Officials said while crude oil supplies are being managed through diversified imports, LPG remains heavily dependent on Gulf routes, making it harder to substitute in the short term. Delays in tanker movement and rising freight costs have already started affecting commercial consumers, including restaurants and institutional kitchens.
Energy experts warned that if the situation persists beyond a few weeks, shortages could intensify and spill over into domestic supply. The government is exploring options such as emergency stock release and alternative sourcing, but logistical constraints remain a major challenge.
The situation highlights India’s structural dependence on a single maritime corridor for critical energy imports.
