India has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire in West Asia between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that the development will contribute to long-term regional stability and also support ongoing peace efforts in Ukraine.
In an official statement, the government emphasised that dialogue, diplomacy and de-escalation remain essential to resolving conflicts and preventing further escalation. The ceasefire comes after weeks of intense military exchanges that disrupted global energy supplies and trade routes.
India highlighted the importance of ensuring the free flow of global trade through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route
that has been severely affected during the conflict. Officials noted that disruptions in the region had impacted energy supply chains and caused uncertainty in international markets.
The government also expressed concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict, stating that it had caused significant suffering and instability. At the same time, India reiterated its consistent position in favour of peaceful resolution and stability in the region.
Importantly, India indicated that the ceasefire in West Asia could create diplomatic momentum for resolving other global conflicts, particularly the ongoing war in Ukraine. Officials said such developments may help revive stalled negotiations and encourage broader peace initiatives.
The statement reflects India’s balanced diplomatic approach, focusing on safeguarding global stability, energy security and international cooperation amid evolving geopolitical tensions.
