A nationwide Bharat Bandh observed on 12 February caused disruptions across several states as trade unions and farmers’ organisations protested against labour policies and economic measures.

Road blockades, transport delays and interruptions to banking and public services were reported in multiple regions, with commuters advised to plan travel in advance. Authorities deployed security personnel in sensitive areas to maintain order and prevent clashes.

Several educational institutions remained open but attendance was affected in places where transport services were suspended. Protest organisers said the strike was aimed at drawing attention to worker welfare and employment concerns, while government officials stated essential services were maintained wherever possible.

The shutdown highlighted continuing tensions between labour groups and policymakers over reforms impacting workers and farmers.
